Pegasus Airlines is a Turkish low-cost carrier established in 1989 through a partnership between Turkish companies Net and Silkar and Irish airline Aer Lingus. Initially operating as a charter airline, Pegasus commenced scheduled services in 1990 with a fleet of two Boeing 737-400 aircraft. In 1994, Turkish bank Yapi Kredi acquired the airline, making it a fully Turkish-owned entity. The airline transitioned to a low-cost model in 2005 under the ownership of ESAS Holding, led by Ali Sabanci. Pegasus Airlines is headquartered in Istanbul, with its primary base at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. As of June 2025, the airline operates a fleet of 124 aircraft, including Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and Boeing 737-800 models, with an average fleet age of 4.9 years, making it one of the youngest fleets among low-cost carriers. In December 2024, Pegasus placed a historic order for 200 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, marking the largest order in the airline's history, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. The airline serves a network of over 130 destinations across 49 countries, including 93 international and 37 domestic locations. Pegasus Airlines offers a single-class cabin configuration on all its flights, focusing on providing affordable travel options. The airline's in-flight services include a "Flying Café" offering food and beverages for purchase, and it is considering the installation of in-flight entertainment and charging facilities on select aircraft. Pegasus operates its own training center, Pegasus Aviation Academy, and a maintenance organization, Pegasus Technic, both fully authorized to train new staff and maintain aircraft. The airline has also expanded its operations through affiliate airlines, including the merger with Izair in 2018, which was previously known as airberlin Türkiye. Pegasus Airlines is listed on the Borsa Istanbul stock exchange, with 34.5% of its shares publicly traded. In 2022, the airline carried approximately 26.9 million passengers and reported an annual revenue of $2.3 billion. Despite challenges such as geopolitical tensions and economic fluctuations, Pegasus Airlines has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, continuing to expand its fleet and network to meet growing travel demand.
