Host Europe status

Host Europe GmbH is a significant name in the history of German and European web hosting, though it no longer operates as an independent company. Founded in 1997, it quickly grew to become a major provider of web hosting, managed hosting, cloud hosting, and domain registration services. The company built a strong reputation by offering a wide range of products for both individuals and businesses, from shared hosting packages to dedicated servers. Its core business model was to provide reliable and high-quality services with a focus on a strong customer support system, which it maintained with a presence in Cologne, Germany. The history of Host Europe is characterized by a series of acquisitions and mergers. It was the flagship brand of the larger Host Europe Group (HEG), a company that consolidated numerous web hosting providers across Europe. HEG itself was acquired by the American hosting giant GoDaddy in 2017 for a significant sum. GoDaddy's acquisition of HEG was part of a strategic move to expand its presence and gain market share in the European hosting market. Following this acquisition, the Host Europe brand, along with other HEG brands like 123-Reg and Heart Internet, were integrated into GoDaddy's portfolio. In 2018, there was another major development when GoDaddy partnered with competitor 1&1 Internet. The business assets of both companies were merged into a new entity called 1&1 Ionos, which became one of the largest web hosting companies in Europe. Today, while the name Host Europe may still exist as a legal entity for certain operations, its brand and services have been fully absorbed into the much larger 1&1 Ionos and GoDaddy corporations. The original Host Europe customers were transitioned to the new brands, marking the end of its independent journey in the web hosting industry.
