Windscribe is a cybersecurity company that provides a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service and a suite of privacy-enhancing tools. Its business model is a freemium model that is unique in the industry for its generosity and flexibility. The company offers a robust free plan with a generous 10 GB of monthly data and access to a selection of server locations, which is far more than most competitors. Users can even get 2 GB of data without providing an email address for maximum anonymity. For users who need more data and access to all of its servers, Windscribe offers a premium Pro plan with unlimited data. It also provides a unique "Build a Plan" option that allows customers to purchase specific server locations for a small monthly fee, with unlimited data as an optional add-on. This customizable pricing model is highly attractive to users who only need to connect to a few countries. Beyond the VPN, Windscribe offers a powerful desktop and browser-based tool called R.O.B.E.R.T., which is a customizable server-side domain and IP blocking tool for ads, malware, and trackers. It also includes features to combat online fingerprinting by spoofing user agents, time zones, and GPS locations. The company is based in Canada and has a history of being highly transparent with its users, even publicly disclosing a server seizure incident in Ukraine. It has a strict no-logs policy, which it has publicly stated is a core part of its mission. The company's commitment to security is also evident in its open-source desktop and browser extension applications. It supports a variety of VPN protocols including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and its own Stealth protocol, which is designed to bypass censorship in heavily restricted regions.
