Silver Airways status

Silver Airways was a regional airline based in Hollywood, Florida, operating primarily within Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Founded in 2011 through the acquisition of Gulfstream International Airlines' assets, Silver Airways commenced operations on December 15, 2011. The airline's fleet consisted of ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft, known for their fuel efficiency and suitability for short-haul regional flights. Silver Airways offered scheduled services from its hubs in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, connecting passengers to various destinations across its network. The airline maintained codeshare agreements with several major carriers, including United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Avianca, Copa Airlines, and Azul Brazilian Airlines, facilitating seamless travel options for passengers. Despite its regional focus and partnerships, Silver Airways faced financial challenges, including a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in December 2024. Following the bankruptcy proceedings, the airline's assets were sold to a holding company that decided to discontinue flight operations. Consequently, Silver Airways ceased all operations on June 11, 2025, leaving passengers stranded and urging them not to go to the airport. At the time of its closure, the airline employed approximately 348 staff members and operated a fleet of eight aircraft. Seaborne Airlines, a subsidiary of Silver Airways based in Puerto Rico, continued its operations independently and was not affected by the shutdown. Silver Airways' abrupt cessation of services highlighted the challenges faced by regional carriers in maintaining profitability and operational sustainability in a competitive aviation market.
