NextGenTel status

NextGenTel is a prominent Norwegian telecommunications company headquartered in Bergen, which has a history of strategic acquisitions and a business model focused on providing a wide range of services to both residential and and business customers. Founded in 2000, the company quickly grew to become a key player in the Norwegian market, known for its offerings in broadband, IP telephony (VoIP), and IPTV solutions. Its initial success was built on delivering ADSL and DSL services, and it later expanded to offer more advanced fiber-optic broadband. The company's ownership has changed hands multiple times. In 2006, it was acquired by the Swedish-Finnish telecommunications company TeliaSonera, which is now known as Telia Company. However, Telia later divested from NextGenTel, selling it to Telio in 2012. More recently, since 2019, NextGenTel has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the investment company Kistefos AS. This ownership by Kistefos has solidified its position as a major independent provider in Norway. The company's current service portfolio is comprehensive, including fiber broadband over its own and partner networks, as well as mobile services. It is positioned as a flexible and affordable alternative to the larger incumbent providers in the country. NextGenTel’s business model is characterized by its use of both its own infrastructure and wholesale agreements with other network owners, such as Telia and Telenor, to provide nationwide coverage. This dual-network approach allows it to offer services to a large portion of the population without the full cost of building its own network everywhere.
