Domino Pizza — status

Domino's is an American multinational pizza restaurant chain and is the largest pizza company in the world based on global retail sales. Its business model is built on a franchise system, with over 95% of its stores being owned and operated by franchisees. This allows the company to expand rapidly with lower capital investment and a focus on generating revenue through royalties and fees from its franchisees, as well as sales from its robust supply chain. The company's history began in 1960 when brothers Tom and James Monaghan purchased a small pizzeria called DomiNick's in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After James traded his share of the business for a Volkswagen Beetle used for deliveries, Tom renamed the company Domino's. The company pioneered the "30-minutes-or-it's-free" delivery guarantee, cementing its reputation for speed and efficiency. Domino's core services are pizza delivery and carryout, and it has invested heavily in technology to streamline its operations. This digital-first approach is a key competitive advantage. The company's mobile app and website account for the vast majority of its orders and include innovative features like the Domino's Tracker, which allows customers to follow their order from preparation to delivery. While its main product is pizza, the menu has diversified to include chicken wings, pasta, sandwiches, and desserts to appeal to a broader customer base and increase average order value. The company's marketing strategy is centered on transparency, bold advertising, and a willingness to acknowledge and fix its past mistakes. Its 2009 "Pizza Turnaround" campaign, in which it openly admitted its pizza was not good and promised to improve, is now a classic case study in brand communication.
