Indeed — status

Indeed is a global employment website that serves as a central hub for job seekers and employers. Its business model is based on a freemium approach where job seekers can use the platform for free, while employers pay for premium services to attract and manage candidates. The company's history began in 2004 when it was founded by Paul Forster and Rony Kahan. Its initial success came from its innovative business model as a job search engine that aggregates millions of job listings from thousands of sources, including company career pages, job boards, and staffing agencies. This "one search, all jobs" approach provided a comprehensive solution for job hunters. Indeed's primary revenue streams come from employers. A significant source is Sponsored Jobs, where employers pay to promote their job postings for greater visibility in search results. This operates on a pay-for-performance model, which can be either pay-per-click (PPC) or pay-per-application (PPA). The company also generates revenue from its Resume Database, which allows employers to subscribe and search for candidates and contact them directly. This is a valuable tool for employers to proactively source talent. Other revenue streams include recruitment advertising, which allows companies to enhance their brand on the platform, and Hiring Events, which facilitate virtual recruiting events. Indeed has evolved from a simple search engine into a complete hiring platform. It offers a wide range of tools for employers, including screening questions, skill assessments, and an applicant tracking system (ATS) to manage candidates. For job seekers, the platform provides a vast resume database, company reviews, salary information, and career advice. The company is owned by the Japanese HR conglomerate Recruit Holdings, which acquired it in 2012. While it operates as a subsidiary, Indeed maintains its brand identity and continues to lead the online recruitment market. It is a major player globally, with a presence in over 60 countries and has become a vital resource for millions of job seekers and employers.
