Name.com is a well-known domain name registrar and web hosting company, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The company's business model is centered on providing a straightforward, no-frills experience for managing a digital presence, offering a range of services beyond just domain registration. Its core products include domain names, web hosting, website builders, SSL certificates, and professional email. A key differentiator for Name.com is its commitment to a simple, clean, and intuitive user interface, which makes it an attractive option for both beginners and experienced users. The company generates revenue through initial sales and subsequent renewals of its various services. While it may not always have the absolute lowest prices, it focuses on providing transparent pricing with no hidden fees, which builds trust with its customer base. Name.com has a significant customer base, and it offers a range of web hosting plans from shared hosting to more powerful VPS options to cater to a variety of needs. It also provides a free website builder with every domain purchase, allowing customers to easily create a simple website. The company's unique selling points include its commitment to customer support and its active engagement with the developer community, offering a robust API that allows for automation of domain and DNS management. Name.com's history includes its acquisition by Demand Media (now Leaf Group) in 2011 and its subsequent sale to GoDaddy in 2020. Despite being part of a larger corporate family, it has largely maintained its distinct brand and customer-focused approach.
