Waze — status

Waze.com is the web presence for the popular Waze mobile application, a community-driven navigation app acquired by Google in 2013. Waze's business model is unique because it is free for users, but it monetizes through location-based advertising. The app's core service is providing real-time traffic and navigation information. It achieves this by using a crowdsourced approach, where millions of users, referred to as "Wazers," passively and actively contribute data as they drive. This user-generated information includes details on traffic jams, accidents, road closures, police presence, and hazards. The waze.com website, while not the primary method for navigation, serves several important functions. It provides a live map that users can view from any computer, showing real-time traffic conditions and incident reports. This allows people to plan their routes before getting into their car. Another key feature on the website is the Waze Map Editor, a collaborative platform where dedicated community members can actively update and edit the underlying map data. This crowdsourced editing is crucial for keeping the maps up-to-date and accurate, especially for new roads or infrastructure changes. The site also serves as a hub for corporate partnerships, including its "Waze for Cities" program, which provides municipalities with real-time, anonymized traffic data to help with urban planning and traffic management. Additionally, the website hosts information about the company, its history, and its various features, such as the ability to choose custom navigation voices and integrate with other apps like Spotify. In essence, waze.com is the digital face of a service that has revolutionized navigation by combining technology with the power of a vast, engaged user community.
