Webnames.ca — status

Webnames.ca is a Canadian-owned and operated web services company, primarily known as Canada's original domain name registrar. Its history is deeply rooted in the Canadian internet, as it was founded as a spin-off from the pioneers who established the .CA country code domain in 1987. The company's business model is a comprehensive, all-in-one approach for online presence, combining domain registration with a wide range of complementary services. These include web hosting, professional email, SSL certificates, and a user-friendly website builder. A key differentiator for Webnames.ca is its commitment to providing a local, Canadian experience, with billing in Canadian dollars and a fully bilingual support team. This focus makes it a preferred choice for Canadian individuals and businesses who want to support a homegrown company and cater to a Canadian audience. The company also offers specialized services for larger organizations, known as Webnames Corporate, which provides robust brand protection and managed domain portfolio services for marquee firms. Unlike some global competitors who attract customers with low introductory prices before raising them significantly, Webnames.ca maintains a more transparent pricing model. It also bundles valuable features like a free one-page website builder and email forwarding with many of its domain registrations, providing a strong value proposition. Webnames.ca’s long-standing reputation for reliable service and its emphasis on customer support and security make it a trusted ally for its clients in the digital world.
