DomainFactory status

Domain Factory GmbH is a significant name in the history of German web hosting and domain services, although it no longer operates as an independent company. Founded in 2000 in Germany, it quickly established itself as a leading provider of internet services for both private and professional customers. The company was highly regarded for its robust hosting solutions and a strong focus on domain registration and management. It offered a comprehensive product portfolio that included shared hosting, virtual private servers (VPS), dedicated servers, and various e-commerce solutions. Domain Factory built a strong reputation for high-quality service and customer care, which made it a perfect fit for a consolidation strategy in the fragmented European hosting market. This led to its acquisition in 2013 by the Host Europe Group (HEG), which was a major step in HEG's goal to expand its presence in Germany. At the time of the acquisition, Domain Factory managed over 1.1 million domains and served approximately 173,000 customers. The merger enhanced HEG's capabilities in the German mass hosting market, strengthening its position against major competitors like 1&1 and Strato. In a subsequent and even larger transaction, the entire Host Europe Group, including Domain Factory, was acquired by the American hosting giant GoDaddy in 2017. GoDaddy's strategy was to use the HEG brands to accelerate its expansion into the lucrative European market. Following this, the Domain Factory brand, along with other HEG brands, was integrated into GoDaddy's portfolio. Today, while the name "Domain Factory" may still be used for certain operational or legacy purposes, its services and customer base have been absorbed into the larger GoDaddy platform, marking the end of its independent business journey.
