9Anime — status

9anime is an online platform that provides free, unlicensed anime streaming. Its business model is based on aggregating content and embedding video streams from third-party servers rather than hosting the content itself. This strategy allows it to offer a vast library of anime series and movies in both subbed and dubbed versions without the cost of licensing. The website generates its revenue almost exclusively through aggressive advertising, including frequent pop-ups and redirects that can sometimes contain malware or lead to malicious sites. A significant portion of its traffic comes directly from users who know its domain, as well as through search engines. While 9anime does not require users to create an account or pay a subscription fee, its legal status is highly questionable. It operates in a legal gray area by not holding official licenses for the content it streams, which is a key difference from legitimate platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix. The site is a popular choice for anime fans worldwide, particularly for those who seek titles that are not available on official, region-locked streaming services. However, this convenience comes with significant security and legal risks, including potential malware from its ads and the possibility of legal action depending on local copyright laws. The platform has a history of changing its domain to avoid legal pressure and takedowns, which has led to the emergence of numerous unofficial clones and mirror sites.
